T minus 5

This will just be a quick post to let you know that Dad is getting along just fine. He slept good last night. The night nurse came in around 5:45 this morning to draw blood for them to have before starting chemo. I had my alarm set anyway to give Dad his 6:00 Am pill. We then ordered breakfast and as soon as we finished that we headed down to the chemo treatment center.

Every morning we meet with the doctor, the pharmacist, the P.A., and the nurse...it's all very well coordinated. Dad got through the chemo today just fine. His creatinine count was a bit high on the normal side, which means his kidneys were really working hard yesterday to process the round of chemo that he received...it was a fairly harsh one.

So my job today is to get him to drink way more fluids than he would like to...and he's doing fine! Dad ate a good breakfast & lunch... and dinner is ordered and room service will be arriving soon. We went for a good 1/2 hour walk today at a very brisk pace. The hallways are long here so you can really pick up the pace. Dad didn't even get tired at all with the walk.

After dinner, he needs to report to the treatment room for his second round of chemo today...the same recipe as this morning. Dad says he's going down for cocktails....and he doesn't even need to lift his arm...and you don't even need to order the drinks, they just bring them to you. They are a bit expensive, though!

It will last for 2-3 hours. I'm doing fine with taking his vitals and giving him his medications...it's already become a routine. Thank heavens for my cell phone which is my portable alarm clock telling me when he needs to have his next dose of medication.

The nurses are fantastic here, in fact everything is going very well. The doctor this morning when he heard that Dad was doing fine, said that "boring is good at this point"....and we agree!

I'll try to post again later this evening, but if I don't get around to it, I'll be posting tomorrow.
