Still going

Dad's still doing fine. His bloodwork this morning was fine except for his platelets...they are low...so he needs a platelet transfusion at 1:00 this afternoon...after he's done here.

The harvesting is going good. Here's a picture of his stem cells after about an hour of harvesting.

And here's his stem cells about 1 1/2 hour later. He's close to being done today...about another 10 minutes. They will come up from the processing lab and get his bag of stem cells, put it in a cooler with some ice, and head over to the lab where they process them and count them. We will hear from Sandy later this afternoon...about 3 hours...as to how the count went today. I'll post that when we hear.

So next is to be disconnected from the machine, get a quick bite of lunch, and then have the platelet transfusion.

  1. Go Leo! Way to send the stem cells packin' (for now).

How are you feeling? I can imagine this can take quite a bit of energy away from you, but hopefully the platelet luncheon will help! :)

I'm doing the stem cell dance (kind of like a rain dance, but singing medical terminology instead of native american chants)

  3. Leo's feeling fine, Shanna. He didn't even get chilled. The nurse kept asking if he needed a heated blanket, but he didn't. He's a little tired, but that could also be because he was up some during the night. His catheter started to bleed a bit around the site where it joins to the skin...nothing huge...we just had to check it out. It had already clotted so we just had the nurse this morning clean it and change the dressing. Unfortunately, this disrupted the whole thing and it's still seeping a bit. They are tending to it now...just watching it. He's waiting for the bag of platelets to arrive right now. That will take an hour to drip and a half hour to wait afterwards before going home.
