Saturday

Dad was a bit uncomfortable last night due to the surgery, so slept downstairs in the recliner and took tylenol to help. Sara arrived today and it was really good to see her! She came along to the Med Center this afternoon to be there when Dad got his 2 neupogen shots and also got his dressing over his catheter changed. It's looking fine, it's just a bit daunting to be cleaning the tubes. It's just cleaning them on the outside with alcohol wipes, and with a sponge thing around the site where the catheter enters his skin, but I worry about pulling it. It won't have to be changed for a week...so that's good.

The nurse also flushed the lines and since we're going in again tomorrow for Dad to get more shots, the nurse can again flush the lines. Later this afternoon, Dad started feeling the effects of the Neupogen...his bones started aching...the big bones...in his hips, lower back, and even his head. The only good part about this is that it means the stem cells are leaving the bone marrow and entering the bloodstream.

We drove around Dad's old neighborhood so Sara could see it and I'll be posting some photos tomorrow when I'm not so tired. Dad ate a good dinner and we took a short walk around the neighborhood to get some circulation going, since he has been sitting or laying for about a day.

Tomorrow is an easy day...to the Med Center to get more neupogen shots and that's it. Then the next day is a big one...the start of the stem cell harvesting.

  1. Don't you hate sleeping in the recliner...I do, I slept in my recliner for 8 weeks after my rotator cuff surgery. I couldn't wait to get back in a flat, real bed. Sounds like they are really puttin you through the ringer...hang in there, you are the toughest guy I know! Love you...Lou Ann
