HARVESTING DONE!!!!!

We just got the phone call telling us that Dad's stem cell count was good today. Again, the target numbers are from 1.5 (minimum needed) to optimum 5. Yesterday's harvest was .8 and today it was 2.14 so the total is just short of 3 !!!!! So that plerixofor shot really worked! So here's the schedule: tomorrow 9:45 appointment to have the catheter looked at...to make sure it isn't seeping any more...that could be bad as Dad's platelets plummet with the upcoming chemo. Reminder: the platelets are what causes blood to clot...so you don't want anything bleeding at that point. Then we have the rest of the morning off. At 3:00 we meet with Dr. Bierman for a scheduled appt. to sign more consent forms for the chemo, etc. Then on Thursday at 8:30 we check in to the patient registration for inpatient status and also check into our cooperative care room. Around 9:30 Dad meets with the doctors for the final approval of the chemo starting and he will actually start the chemo around 1:00 or 2:00 on that day. I'll have more details of the chemo schedule later, but for now we are very happy! In fact, we are going out to celebrate tonight...going to Caniglia's and we just might even get a small glass of wine.

  1. Holy crap! That's amazing! I thought that number was supposed to get less each day! So since they will transplant back all that he harvested, that's probably really good to have that big of a count, right?

    Have fun celebrating!
